This role is at the heart of what it means to cultivate community. DFA is a Cooperative owned by, governed by and here for family dairy farmers. The Senior Social Media Specialist should have a passion for cultivating, growing and stewarding engaged community to help tell DFA’s connected story across a variety of social platforms to a variety of target audiences. This role will be primarily responsible for overseeing DFA’s employee advocacy program, our content creator and contributor networks, as well as growing our nationwide Young Cooperator community. Together, these three focus areas are critical to building awareness and following for the Cooperative, its farmer-owned brands and other strategic marketing initiatives.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the strategic and tactical execution of DFA’s employee advocacy network including content planning, creation, community management and measurement of against program objectives
  • Grow and champion DFA’s Young Cooperator community through social channels and engagement opportunities
  • Manage DFA’s content creator and contributor networks, among farmer-owners, for the benefit of Cooperative connectivity
  • Partner with creative and marketing to develop on-brand, engaging assets for target social audience
  • Assist in management and analysis of paid, owned and earned social data across platforms and tools to provide insight driven recommendations, optimizations and decisions
  • Oversight of listening across the social space, including identification and execution of opportunities to engage with consumers to help build brand fans
  • Partner with various teams across DFA to develop campaigns and content in support of objectives
  • Cultivate collaborative partnerships across the organization to identify agile opportunities to leverage social media content for real time brand and category opportunities
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Cooperative and its brand/voice, its business objectives and focus, the dairy industry and the dynamics that impact our farmer-owners and business
  • Maintain and share awareness of emerging social media technologies, trends, tools and industry news that align with DFA’s business goals. Experiment with emerging social media trends and tactics to keep DFA on the forefront of engaging content; test and learn as appropriate

  • Work with team to train and engage DFA employees and members in an effort to grow our social media community of promoters and defender
  • Champion and support DFA’s social media policy and help others across the organization understand requirements; continually provide recommendations or process improvements within the communications and social media teams

Minimum Requirements: Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field (practical work experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis)
  • 4+ years of experience in marketing or communications that includes managing multiple social media channels, strategic planning, community management or other relevant digital experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Tik Tok and other social media best practices
  • Experience with facilitating influencer relationships, contracts and/or programs and/or previous experience with internal social-based employee advocacy programs
  • Experience executing paid social media including extensive knowledge of Meta Ads manager
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point; with social media scheduling tools such as Sprout Social, Buffer or Hootsuite, Canva etc.; and with writing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of social media editorial requirements, AP style and best practices across platforms
