Social Media Manager
ASU seeks a creative and collaborative social media manager to join our team and help us grow and diversify our digital audiences. The social media manager will be responsible for planning, creating, posting and monitoring the performance of organic content across the social media accounts managed by ASU’s Media Relations and Strategic Communications, including ASU News. The manager also will work closely with the Brand Strategy and Management teams on content for ASU’s flagship brand accounts.
Day-to-day responsibilities include content strategy and execution, engaging with and responding to followers, developing and pitching organic social campaigns for strategic initiatives, generating story ideas, and sharing performance data with leadership, the ASU newsroom team and the ASU social media management team.

This is not a grant funded position and is not contingent on future grant funding.
$62,400-$70,000 per year; DOE
Develop audience-centered organic content based on editorial meetings, story budgets, key insights and strategic communications and brand priorities.
Accountable for the successful delivery of social media projects for ASU News and other Media Relations and Strategic Communications accounts.
Develop the recommended content angles for news stories that are shared on social media, based on strategy.
Plan and build a consistent posting cadence for each account, while developing brand-aligned content and growing social audiences.
Work with leadership and the in-house Visual Communications team to refine and implement agreed-upon strategy and vision for social media operations, audience growth and engagement. Building on social insights a must.
Work with the ASU social media management team to plan, develop and frame audience-centered news content for ASU News and ASU’s flagship brand accounts.
Contribute to the development of growth strategies across all social platforms.
Maintain proficiency and knowledge in the latest social media technologies and best practices (i.e., new tools, algorithm changes, platform enhancements).
Lead community management across social platforms (i.e., engaging with followers, monitoring comments and messages).
Attend events and produce live social media content.
Work closely and collaboratively with designers, photographers, videographers, copywriters, content creators and others to create engaging social content and ensure deliverables are on schedule.
Determine the optimal times to post content and manage the scheduling tools, using Hootsuite and Airtable.
Participate in weekly discussions with the editorial team regarding story ideas, potential content and audience engagement strategies pegged to specific stories.
Lead for communicating university news announcements on flagship brand accounts.
Work closely with creative, news and brand teams to coordinate news content activations.
Social media lead for ASU in California and ASU in DC social media channels.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or related field AND five (5) years of related experience which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Demonstrated knowledge of all major social platforms, experience with platform-specific content and formats and a passion for telling stories creatively on social media.
Work experience managing social media.
Experience in news judgment and writing and copy-editing skills with keen attention to detail.
Experience with third-party social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
Demonstrated knowledge of social media trends and best practices for organic posts.
Proven ability to use data to inform decision-making by drawing actionable insights from data analytics. Experience with native social analytics; Google Analytics is a plus.
Ability to set and abide by project deadlines and prioritize projects; experience managing both urgent, short-term projects and complex, longer-term projects; should thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Evidence of organizational skills, attention to detail and a passion for working ahead.
Ability to be both a self-starter and team player; strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Experience managing social media in a newsroom or for a large brand.
Evidence of a positive attitude and a passion for working across teams and collaborating.
Experience in keeping up with digital trends and forecasting.
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse 75 percent; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 10 percent.
Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds 15 percent.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
