Pulse Academy launches Assessment Advisory Board to hone curriculum and certifications

The Social Media Pulse Community is pleased to introduce our Assessment Advisory Board for Pulse Academy. The AAB includes social media professionals, digital media academics, and assessment experts who will help us hone our curriculum and assessments so Pulse Academy can continue to be your trusted source for social media education.

Meet the Board

@phylliskhare Phyllis Khare is one of the original co-founders of Social Media Manager School, which is now part of Pulse Academy. Phyllis has designed and implemented online marketing plans for many businesses in diverse fields for the last 12 years. She has been an adjunct professor at Maharishi International University since 2014 and is the author of Social Media Marketing eLearning Kit for Dummies and a co-author of Facebook Marketing All-In-One for Dummies.

Dr. Scott Cowley

@scott.cowley Dr. Scott Cowley is an Associate Professor of Marketing and director of the Digital Marketing & eCommerce program at Western Michigan University. An award-winning educator and researcher, Scott is an innovator in digital marketing education through his contributions as a keynote speaker, author, workshop facilitator, and student mentor.

@info1 Janet Machuka is an experienced social media marketer with 5 years experience in digital marketing. She has worked with global brands such as Autonomous, Airtel, BBC Africa, Carrefour among others, trained more than 50 brands on social media marketing and branding and built a global Twitter community (#AfricaTweetChat) that has tapped into an audience of 500+ million.

Karen Freberg is a Professor in Strategic Communications at the University of Louisville. Freberg has experience working with brands such as Hootsuite, General Motors, Breeders’ Cup, Facebook, Kentucky Derby, Sun Tan City, Brown-Forman, Adobe, and Chipotle. Dr. Freberg has written several award winning books about social media and public relations.

@aiaddysonzhang Dr. Ai Addyson-Zhang is professor turned entrepreneur. She the founder and CEO of Classroom Without Walls. Dr. Ai’s work has been featured in Forbes, Insider Higher Education, and Pearson Education. Dr. Ai is also a TEDx speaker.

@ksutherl Dr. Karen Sutherland is a multi-award winning Senior Lecturer in Public Relations at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia and coordinates the Bachelor of Communication (Social Media), social media major and minor. Dr. Sutherland is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, the author of books about social media and public relations, and co-founder of Dharana Digital, marketing agency.

@eric Eric Elkins is a strategist, author, professional speaker, and CEO of WideFoc.us Social Media, a Denver-based agency he founded in 2007. His team drives tangible results for SMBs, consumer brands, nonprofits, and global corporations. He also writes odes to delicious food at denverlicious.com and loves to share his food and travel adventures on Instagram as @ericelkins.

Dr. Caroline Lego Munoz is Professor of Marketing at the University of North Georgia. She teaches and researches on the topics of marketing, consumer behavior, digital marketing and social media. Her research has been published in numerous academic journals and Dr. Munoz is the co-author of #Share: How to Mobilize Social Word of Mouth (sWOM). Currently, Dr. Munoz is looking at social media marketing in political campaigns and visual imagery within social media.

@mkushin Dr. Matt Kushin is a professor in the Department of Communication at Shepherd University. A leading voice in social media education, Kushin is the author of Teach Social Media: A Plan for Creating a Course Your Students Will Love and also writes Social Media Syllabus (MattKushin.com), a popular blog and resource for social media educators. Dr. Kushin is passionate about creating a more civil and kind world. He is a senior fellow in the Stubblefield Institute for Civil Political Communications where he also serves on the board of advisors.
