First, let me introduce you to the free Mastermind Groups: Agency area of Social Media Pulse. It’s just getting started but one day soon (with your help) this area will become a cool spot for agency owners and agency staff to connect and get “agency” specific questions answered. We’re hoping to host some agency-specific Meetup events soon too. Let us know what you’d like to see!
Hi Deb, I’m Alistair from Two Hour Digital. We are a Social Media and Twitter Training Business based in Glasgow, UK. We specialise in running Social Media and Twitter Training Masterclasses. We also work with SME / SMBs in developing their Social Media strategy and optimising their accounts. We are fun to work with and welcome open conversations with you on how we can help your business
The best piece of advice we’ve received that has helped me, is to remember to work as much ON my business as I do IN my business. It’s too easy as a sole trader to get committed to delivering projects and to forget about directing your own business forward.
My last vacation was a long time ago because of COVID however, we had a great 10-day trip to Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
Thanks for posting Alistair! After what I feel like has been years of knowing you on Twitter…it’s been cool meeting you at our SMP MeetUps! I totally agree with you about working ON your business, especially as a smaller agency! I think scheduling time is essential or otherwise, it becomes a deadline (aka taxes) driven activity!
@alicampbel what’s your best strategy to work ON your business?
ps had to go look up Tenerife…such vast landscaping…but boy the color of the ocean was amazing!
It’s difficult to define a BEST strategy. The only thing I can recommend is that there is time in your diary every week for working ON the business, rather than just delivering in it. It’s not easy as you’ll know, however it’s critical that you are focused at some point in your working week on the months ahead and what opportunities lie there.
You also need to get some regular clear time out of the business, so that you can think properly without the distractions of deadlines and client calls.
Maybe just going for a long walk can give you that headspace to see the woods from the trees.
Hello all! I’m Teresa and I live in Sonoma County, N. California USA. I’ve been managing social media for various businesses for about 6 years and enjoy the challenges and flexibility being a consultant provides. My only daughter is going off to college in the Fall and I’ve got two lovely dogs who keep me busy, aside from work. So nice to meet you all!
Hello everyone! My name is Kassie, and I have a social media agency titled GOAT Social Media. I’m based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL but have clients all across the United States.
The best piece of advice that I’ve received is to focus on what you do best. Not to get lost or caught up in what everyone else is doing. Social media can be overwhelming with constant changes, but taking those changes step by step and keeping true to what makes your agency thrive is better in the long run.
Most recently, I visited Atlanta, Georgia, and Walt Disney World in Orlando. It was my first time in Atlanta and I loved exploring the city, the aquarium, the botanical gardens, and the delicious food. As for Disney, I go every few months!
HI, Lowell Brown here from Toronto, Canada.
I operate a small social media marketing agency called Going Social. We provide social media management, Facebook & Instagram Ad campaign management and provide consulting & training services as well.
I have over 20 years of digital marketing experience and over 10 years of social media and ads management experience.
Best advice…set expectations. Be clear with clients on what you can and can’t offer to them. This helps ensure they don’t ask or expect more of you (which can lead to disappointment later), it also outlines your expectations on what you can do for the client so they don’t assume you can deliver the moon - sometimes ppl need to know what is achievable and if their expectations are not reasonable and why.
Most recent vacation…haven’t had one in a while but hoping to take my kids on a vacation this winter!!!
My name is Lisa Hoekstra and I’m a Manager of Marketing and Communications for a charity called Food4Kids Halton. I love working in the nonprofit world (been doing fundraising and marketing for charities for over 23 years). I LOVE lifelong learning and engaging on social media.
Hello, my name is Rebekah Richards and I’ve been providing digital marketing services to local businesses since 2012. Recently I started shifting more of my focus to coaching and providing challenge design consulting services to coaches and course creators. Getting their groups filled on Facebook is a major component of this process so looking forward to picking up a few nuggets to add to our framework.
