I didn’t realize so much of the marketing of a book falls to the authors and how important pre-sales are. Great insights, @jenn!

Really excellent and important point about taking on the marketing for yourself, even if you’re with a publisher. Part of why I wanted to seek out a publisher (besides Mike’s point about feeling more “validated” as an author!) is because they’d help on some level with the marketing—this point about keeping those expectations low is really helpful!
