Favorite email service providers/CRM?

This isn’t specific to social media, but so many of us do digital marketing, too! Tell me about your experiences with email marketing tools and/or CRM tools. I’ve used many over the years, and they each have pros and cons (and, of course some are out of reach due to pricing). I would love to hear about your experience and opinions!

Tools I’ve used: Mailchimp, Constant Contact, SendGrid, Hubpot.

Tools I’m interested in hearing pros/cons about: Amazon SES, MyEmma, ConvertKit

Hi Ruth, I’ve used Hubspot, Mailchimp, Aweber and Mailerlite over the years. Hubspot is great for CRM and I’m currently using Mailerlite for my own email campaigns. There’s always so much to learn. Although I’m certified in in Mailchimp, it can be a bit confusing… the UI never seemed particularly well thought out. I’d be interested to know if anyone else feels the same.

I need more info, too. I have a client who wants to move out of MailChimp, but a good portion of the people on his list are added manually from a Facebook Group membership question. When we try to move the list, we’re told that all those emails won’t transfer because they didn’t use a form to join the list. sigh. If anyone has a solution to this - I’m all ears.

Exporting the list doesn’t work? Then importing them to another service?

I can export all day long - but when you take it to another service - like flodesk (which I think is wonderful) they won’t’ accept those manually added ones (somehow that shows up in the data). It was a lot of support to figure that all out. So now I’m just looking for some time to ask that specific question when considering a move to another service.

I could download the MC list in two buckets - one being the manually added ones – and then re-manually add them to the new service. It’s a bother, but that could work. maybe.

That may be what you have to do if you want to have them over to flodesk. The only issue I can think of is that because entries were added manually and without a form there is no way to “verify” consent, and Flodesk (not sure about MC) doesn’t want to service those.

Even if you do import the two lists, the manual ones may still not be serviced. I’m not sure about adding them manually to Flodesk. What you could do if possible is send an opt-in email to those that have been manually added in MC and if they choose to consent again, might make them eligible?

If I am completely wrong, I wouldn’t mind being educated more on the matter.

I appreciate you trying to sort this out for me Kaz, but we’ve already done all that thinking. Once I get the time to go deeper with all of this (probably mid-Dec) I’ll come back and tell you the solution!

@phylliskhare - Here is a specific support doc about migrating from MC to Flodesk: How do I move my subscriber list from my old provider to Flodesk? | Flodesk Help Center

Hope this helps!

Hi, @joanna - Thanks for the feedback! I have not used Mailerlite. What made you choose that tool? What does it do well?

Cost was a big factor but I really liked the Mailerlite UI. I think sometimes you just find some tools easier to work with than others.

Im a sucker for the Mailchimp… should add I like the overall direction that they are taking the product. Also, from the agency perspective …easy to hop in and out of client accounts.
